Le Corsaire draws inspiration from Jean Bart, the corsair of Dunkirk who became one of the great naval figures of Louis XIVβs reign.
In 1694, after a French grain convoy had been captured by the Dutch, Jean Bart pursued it at sea and brought it back to France. It was one of the exploits that made his name legendary in Dunkirk.
